I have quite a few songs sung by geeta dutt for S.D. Burman. I thought i will upload some of them hoping that they will be useful to some.
I will upload these as time permits. First I am uploading geeta dutt songs from the movie Baazi

Just as an aside, I had lot of problem converting bitrates for these many files.
manually converting each one is quite difficult.
So I have made a shell script in linux for this. Run it in any directory which has lots of
mp3 files which you want to convert to 160 kbps and you want zip files also to be made
for you to upload to hamara forums.
The code for this script is quite simple (i have used the lame mp3 encoder).

This i am putting hopefully others can also use it. hope it helps somebody else facing the same problem.

lame -b 160 $file $1160_$file
zip $1160_$file.zip $1160_$file
# rm $file
done
exit 0

Just copy this code into a file say convert.sh into the directory with mp3 files with lower bitrates.
Then give it execute permission with chmod +x convert.sh
Then just run it with the command ./convert.sh
It will automatically convert all to 160 kbps with the new 160 kbps files with name 160_oldname.mp3
and also make zip files for you to upload! (Its that simple).
(You can uncomment the # before rm $file if you want to delete them although i don't do that incase
i have problem in reencoding with some files!)

Thanks a lot for continuing to post Geeta ji's songs for S D Burman sahab on this thread.

I am not very technically sound, especially when it comes to audio files, but this is what I learnt after joining HF.

One can not improve the audio quality of a song by increasing the bitrate of the song. Changing of bitrate from higher to lower (say from CDQ 320 KBPS to 192 KBPS) will slightly reduce the audio quality. A reverse way, for example, increasing a 32 KBPS file to 96 KBPS will not improve its audio quality.

In case you have better understanding of this process, please explain. That will benefit me and other members too !

MP3 is basically a lossy encoding scheme. MP3's use of a lossy compression algorithm is designed to greatly reduce the amount of data required to represent the audio recording and still sound like a faithful reproduction of the original uncompressed audio for most listeners, but is not considered High Fidelity audio by most audiophiles. Quality is heavily dependent on the choice of encoder and encoding parameters.Perceived quality can be influenced by listening environment (ambient noise), listener attention, and listener training and in most cases by listener audio equipment (such as sound cards, speakers and headphones). So a lower bitrate song may actually have better quality sound than another song of higher bitrate.
Several bit rates are specified in the MPEG-1 Layer 3 standard: 32, 40, 48, 56, 64, 80, 96, 112, 128, 144, 160, 192, 224, 256 and 320 kbit/s, and the available sampling frequencies are 32, 44.1 and 48 kHz. A sample rate of 44.1 kHz is almost always used, because this is also used for CD audio, the main source used for creating MP3 files. A greater variety of bit rates are used on the Internet. 128 kbit/s is the most common, beause it typically offers adequate audio quality in a relatively small space. 192 kbit/s is often used by those who notice artifacts at lower bit rates. As the Internet bandwidth availability and hard drive sizes have increased, 128 kbit/s bitrate files are slowly being replaced with higher bitrates like 192 kbit/s, with some being encoded up to MP3's maximum of 320 kbit/s. It is unlikely that higher bit rates will be popular with any lossy audio codec as higher bit rates than 320 kbit/s encroach on the domain of lossless codecs such as FLAC.

By contrast, uncompressed audio as stored on a compact disc has a bit rate of 1,411.2 kbit/s (16 bits/sample × 44100 samples/second × 2 channels / 1000 bits/kilobit).

Some additional bit rates and sample rates were made available in the MPEG-2 and the (unofficial) MPEG-2.5 standards: bit rates of 8, 16, 24, and 144 kbit/s and sample rates of 8, 11.025, 12, 16, 22.05 and 24 kHz.
For MPEG1 (sampling frequencies of 32, 44.1 and 48 kHz)
bitrate n = 32, 40, 48, 56, 64, 80, 96, 112, 128, 160, 192, 224, 256, 320

For MPEG2 (sampling frequencies of 16, 22.05 and 24 kHz)
n = 8, 16, 24, 32, 40, 48, 56, 64, 80, 96, 112, 128,144, 160

Since my old files were 16 I can give a maximum of 160.


The reason I had to recode the bitrate is that hamaraforums doesn't permit songs below a certain bitrate. So i needed to convert them to higher bitrate. Doing this conversion for many files is monotonous so I made this quick hack. It may help others. In general quality should remain same at higher bitrates when converted from lower bitrates other things being equal. (They often aren't. :-) ).

Correction

Yes there is a song titled "Chhup chhup chhup" in the movie Pyar (1950) sung by Geeta ji. Can some one please share this song ?

Mahesh has confirmed that Chhup chhup chhup is the starting of the song "Aa gayi re aa gayi".

A small correction, the song "Aye dil hain mushkil jeena yahan..yeh hain bumbai meri jaan" is from CID, and the music is composed by O P Nayyar. Incidentally, this is the only song of Geeta ji which got Filmfare award.

Another strange fact about this song.

Geeta ji sang lot of songs for S D Burman sahab.
Geeta ji sang a lot of duets with Hemantda.

This is the only duet she sang with Hemantda under the baton of S D Burman sahab.

Yes, I have also not heard of her duet with Burmanda himself.

It seems like Burmanda sang only solos, that too most of them in background.

Yes I have listed all the songs on this topic. (I removed the two songs which i had put on the list due to improper record though which were done with other Music Directors). I have also taken the liberty to put name of the four other songs of Do Bhai which i did not have but whose link you gave in one of the postings.
That is also an interesting point. All songs are in background too. (They move the story forward too though).

1. Bahar - Sataaye hue ko sataati hai duniya : This is same as "Oh duniyawale kitne zalim hain teri duniya wale", I think this has been shared already. If not, I will check my collection. I am sure I have it.
6. Pyar - chup chup chup : This is the same as "Aa gayi re aa gayi", check my posts related to this song. Mahesh gave this information to us.
7. Sitaron Se Aage - dil le gayaa gham de gayaa : There is a link on one of the posts for this song, once again ever dependable Mahesh uploaded it for us.

This song is new to me (if it actually is there.).

I was listening to "Ek roz bichhadnewaalonka" from Kamal (1949) just now. I felt that the tune was identical to the song "Humein chhod piya kis des gaye" from Do Bhai (1947), Burmanda's own composition.

Has anyone noticed this?
