sri, lawanis happen to be a part of whole marathi music and they need not take front row here.
but the problem is marathi people just can't do without them.

anyways, agar aap aake program ki ijjat badhayenge, to hum lawani nahi sunayenge..

majhe gane ekach majhe.. nityache gane (lata)

and maybe if i can get my hands on-
ghan tami shukra bagh rajya kari.. (lata again)

Good idea.. The choice of songs is great too !!
Was wondering if we could have a taste of folk music too... How about jaa.mbhool pikalyaa jhaDakhali ? (sorry about another suggestion based on HM songs)
Also noticed that there was no song by Jeetendra Abhisheki. I guess "Abeer gulaala udhaLeeta ranga" would might put a nice tinge.
As for Arun Date, I like the duet "sandhikaali ya ashaa" more than "swaragangechya kaaThavarati" !!!

Having talked of the legends, I guess you could add a song by the newer generation too - "Avelich kevhaa daaTala andhaar" by Shridhar Phadke or "gaarava" by Milind Ingle ?
( Sorry can't resist the temptation for another HM number - "aala aala vaara, sange paavashaachya dhaara" by Asha B and Anuradha)
You must be surely thinking like you shot in your foot by asking us for suggestions !!! But I guess I'm helpless - "dusaryaache paay maage odhaNe haa maraaThee maaNasaacha dharmach aahe" !!!

august - I dont have ghan tamii shukra bagh digitized. I already have vasantraav's ghei chand for a sample of naaTysangiit, you prefer some other. (some other singer than asha please)
and I will have to drop HM (dayaaghanaa or rasulalla as you call it , my favourite) to get in maajhe gaaNe (another favourite)

dhananjay - aapaN puNerii aahot, paN puNerii khekaDe naahi all suggestions are honestly welcome. I have swapped arun date song with sandhikaali yaa ashaa. I like adding jaambhuL pikalyaa. but which one should I drop for it ?? I have added either fiTe andharache jaaLe or rutu hirva for newer generation. (I really dont think shridhar phaDake qualifies as newer generation, he is older than me ). jitendra abhishekii is represented as MD of kaTyaar kaaLajaat ghusalii.

I just want to get in as many singers and MDs as possible.
I think vasant desai, prabhu, ram kadam, khaLe, maa. krishnaraav, jitendra abhisheki, sudhir phaDake, C. raamachandra, P. L., dasharath pujaari, shriidhar phaDake, is a good sample of marathi MDs.


hmm, I think this program should be done by a non-marathi marathi. (like SB) I will have to pick another 20-30 songs
Here are some that are not in the list for no good reason

My humble suggestions/additions (my knowledge is miniscule here):

*he shyamsundara or jaaiin vicharit ranaphula by Kishori-tai (even if it means another HM)
*tujha roop chitti raho by Sudhir Phadke from the movie Gora Kumbhar.
*tujhi maajhi preet by Lata-bai from Amar Bhupali.

and round off the programme with a legendary ustaad (Abdul Karim Khan-saheb) singing one of these:

*prem seva sharan (bhimpalasi)
*chandrika jhanu (devgandhar)
*ugich kanta (ananda bhairavi)
*nach sundari karu kopa (sindhi bhairavi)

(The names in the brackets indicate the 'raags' that are written on the labels).

There cannot be any better tribute to Marathi Natyageet than Abdul Karim Khan-sahib singing them.

(Please do not lynch me for any mis-spellings and pronunciations!)

I had no idea that Ustaad Abdul Karim Khan had sung any Natyapad !!!! That was some enlightenment for me . I have the versions sung by other figures of Natyasangeet.
Can you upload these gems ? A separate thread would make sense. (I'm sure NM won't pick all of these for his program, if he decides to air them. So you will have to do us the favour !!! )

hmm, I think naaTyasangiit should be a program in its own right. and it would be wrong to just pick one.
So I am going to pick the naaTyagiit jhalak - done by asha in her live program. and one of those songs by DM

in the jhalak she has sung
paravashataa paash daive
shuuraa mii vandile
divya swaatantrya ravi

followed by DM's paravashataa paash daive

how's that? Archie, other songs will have to wait for the naaTyasangiit program. ( I will suggest that Abhay should do it )

also, jaain vichaarit raanphulaa is already there.

Also I was suggesting 1st show to air on 1 may, but since nimmi doesnt like that idea, we will stick with 26 Apr. (unless lata and priya both can do 1 May in which case nimii will have to wait for a repeat )

(I cant do repeat on 1st may if we do first show on 26 Apr. In that case, I will do repeat some time later)

nm, radio and chat are out-of-bounds for me. Isn't there an alternative to the live show? Can you not record your banter between the songs, so whenever you upload the songs, you upload that too?

In that way, I'll be able to enjoy the show at my convenience, and still not lose out on what I always lose out on...

1. not half, there were 25 songs, so still more than 66% intact.

2. They dont really change the way the program is arranged. (one aashaa laavaNii replaced by other aashaa laavaNii)

3. They are also my favourites

(I am) showing the "dhuup" scented by sandalwood from malay mountains, so please accept this "puujaa" and wake up o "gopaal"

puurv dishelaa gulaal udhaLun dnyaandiip laavilaa, goras arpun avaghe godhan gele yamunelaa
"gulaal" (red colord powder) is thrown on the east direction and the light of knowldege is lit. All the cattle has gone to yamuna river after providing milk
dhuup diip naivedya asaa haa sadupachaar chaalilaa
and you are being treated to "dhuup", lights, "naivedya" (food)


raangoLyaa nii saDe sajavile rastyaa rastyaatuun, saan paaule vaajatii painjaN chhun chhun chuu chuun
The roads are beautified with "rangoLi" (design on floor with white powder) and "saDe" (sprinking water)
small feet are making the sound of their "painjaN" - chhun chhun

kuThe mandirii aikuu yete TaaLaanchii kiN kiN, ektaantaa kuThe laavite ek taarichii dhuun
"TaaL" making a sound "kiN kiN" is heard from somewhere in a temple, while somewhere the tune of "ektaari" is making me forget myself.
nisarg maanav tujhyaa swaagataa asaa siddha jaahalaa
the nature and man are so ready to welcome you.


raaj dwaarii ghaDe chaughaDaa shubha:kaal jaahalaa
At the palace door, the "chaughaDaa" (a kind of drum) is beating, good time is here
saagar tiirii rushii muniinchaa vedaghosh chaalalaa
at the beach, "rishis" are chanting "vedas"
van veLuunche vaajavii muralii, chhaan suur laagalaa
the jungle is playing the flutes of the bamboo and the "suur" is nicely tuned.
taru shikharaanvar kokiL kavii ne pancham suur laavilaa
while on the tree tops "kokiL" is sining "pancham"

Here is one of the bonus songs. (I really wanted to get this in, but just couldn't) Its from the same drama, dev diinaagharii dhaavalaa. sung by kumaar gandarv and vaaNii jayaraam. Its one of the most famous marathi songs by kumar.

NM, thanks a ton for the upload. (When will that become plural? ) I was frantically trying to join you during the program, but I was on vacation in Dharamsala and had a very slow connection which just would not let me access the broadcast. Finally gave up after trying for almost 20 minutes.

A small nitpick on the lyrics: that's "*zaDe* chaughaDaa" and not "*ghaDe* chaughaDaa". The translation is unaffected.

Looking forward to the other songs!

asha has sung a few of the older naaTyasangiit songs to get the new generation acquainted with the older generation's favorite songs. She presented a sample in one of her live performances. Here is that sample

Do listen to "yuvatii manaa daaruN raN ruchir prem he" by asha if you like this jhalak. Thats the one I like most (may be that was the first asha naatysangiit I heard and so has stayed with me all this time)
