All right, now we're playing for... how much? Anyway, here's the question:
Who was Socrates's brother?
1: Plato
2: Cafu
3: Diogenes
4: Rai
5: Aristotle
Zara soch samajh ke jawab dijiye.
Whisper: Aaapne bilkul sahi jawab diya hei!
Yeh lijiye aapka cheque... 50 lakh ka.
But hey, weren't you knocked out by Zuha-ji? Chaliye, phir bhi aapko cheque de dete hein.
Two cheques. Ek bhai ko de dijiyega.
Shayad D... nahin nahin... C!
No, I'll go for A! Thanks, I'll accept the cheque now.
Why?
Never even heard of Socrates the footballer.
Socrates aur Indian! Aap rehne hi dijiye football ko.
And I won't be surprised if you don't know too much about cricket too...
Problem with dames... they can recognize Sachin and Rahul, so they think they know cricket.
Good good! Dunga it was. Had slipped my mind too, and had to check up.
The 1994 Brazilians had some great players... especially remember one fellow who flew in the right wing... Leonardo. Solid defence too, though I can't recall the names.
Here:
Aap cheque accept karenge ya agle round pe jayenge?
Ok... a question about cricket now . You can take a shot Priya. It is a simple one.
First batsman to be given "run-out" by third umpire?

2. Inzamam-Ul-Haq
3. Mark Waugh
4. Sachin Tendulkar
Cheers,

Ji haan, hum bata denge answer jisko chahiye ho!
SACHUUUUUUUU ( I think)
Romji may I call U a creep? I may not know nothing bout football but have heard of most of the cricketing greats. Been watching cricket since age 10 or so.
BTW where do Rai and his brother belong to???? Sirf taane maarte hain. Kuch bolte nahi.
Ab gaali de hi di hei to mein kya kahoon!
Chaliye, agar aapne itna hi cricket dekha hei to please is prashn ka uttar de dijiye. Yeh Sachuuu kya hota hei?
Taana isliye maara kyonki aap about 180 degree opposite directoin mein in do bandhuon ko place kar rahin thhin... They're Brazilians. Both of them, just to make matters clear.
Never? All right, A's my answer.
Aapko kuchh nahin milega. The correct answer was Anjali-ji's Sachin Tendulkar, not Priya-ji's Sachuuu. Hei na Vivek?
Ghabariye nahin, shayad aapko phir hot seat pe baithne ka mauqa mile!

Next question.... name the Indian newspaper whose launch had been very eagerly awaited for months, and which started publishing recently.
1: DDA
2: DNA
3: NDA
4: BDA
Good show, Mandrake, good show! Well done!
The paper is Daily News and Analysis, a joint venture of Zee TV and the Dainik Jagran group.
No no buddy, you keep the cheque... you being a Mumbaikar, and one who seems to keep his eyes and ears open, you'd have known of DNA in any case.
How's the paper doing, BTW? Nothing special in it, from what I've seen... is in the ToI/Mid Day mode.
Pretty average. In fact, the Mid-Day guys directed them to me. (They are good friends of each other).
But the fact is rather simple: they all give the same news. How much variations can they bring to go one up? And with Mid-Day innovating endlessly, there's a loyal reader base that refuses to go elsewhere.
Mumbai Mirror came and is almost gone. Hindustan Times came, and is kinda going. Afternoon is just about surviving.
It's a jungle out there.
You're right... tis the same news they've got to give... But I like the way Indian Express is going... still seems to be a newspaper, rather than a gossip rag.
Yes, Mirror I believe is in trouble... HT too?
Mumbai's indeed a jungle... No wonder everybody was chary about venturing into the ToI and Mid Day territory.
DNA, though, is thinking real big... let's how the story pans out.
Is hi baat par ab aap ek prash bhi poochh lijiye!
What is the weight of a cricket ball?
A. 3-1/2 oz.
B. 5-1/2 oz.
C. 7-1/2 oz.
D. 9-1/2 oz.

Next question, for Rs 1.
In honour of whom has this award been given to Sachin Tendulkar?
1: Sanjay Gandhi
2: Indira Gandhi
3: Rajeev Gandhi
4: Mahatma Gandhi

Rom, yaar, tum bhi... award pe foto-shoto chipkaya hai... ab kaun kambakht nahi jeetega yeh 1 rupee?
I honestly expect tough questions from you. With your background, more so...
I'm no O'Brien, Mandrake! Aur is internet ke zamaane mein kya mushkil reh gaya hei? Par sabse badi gadbad yeh hei ke chaar choices bhi deni padti hein...
Well.....this is a bit controversial Question......as some sources say that Kanchenjunga is the tallest.....while some others say K2 is a bit taller than Kanchenjunga....... Ab kya kiya jaaye???
Is Kanchenjunga in India ?? Or in Nepal ?
I'm quite sure ..(or at least the only version Ive heard is) that K-2 is the second tallest mountain ... now if its in India or not is...
My answer : K-2
PS : whats the Indian name for K-2 ?? Im sure Ive heard an Indian name for it
Yes Vivek, Kanchenjunga is in India (Sikkim), but also shares area with Tibet & Nepal. (Darjeeling se dikhta hai... ) Another name for K2 is GODWIN AUSTIN (which was named K2 by the Survey Dept. of India) There has been some controversy going on about K2 being taller than Kanchenjunga & vice-versa. But as far as official records (for now) go, I think you are right!!! (K2)
Bahut khoob Ab yeh lijiye aap ke saamne agla sawaal........ (Imagine AB's Baritone plsss... ) [Starting off with some easy ones.... 'to help the participant settle in'... ]
Which bowler holds the record for the best bowling figures by an Indian in a One-Day International?
A. Kapil Dev
B. Ashish Nehra
C. Anil Kumble
D. Harbhajan Singh
Sahi Jawaab!!! Anil Kumble 6/12 in 10 overs V/S West Indies @ Eden Gardens, Calcutta.
Ab agla sawaal.......
Which Indian bowler has the distinction of bowling the most economical bowling in an ODI?
A. Anil Kumble
B. Harbhajan Singh
C. Sunil Joshi
D. Sachin Tendulkar
Sorry Vivek......you may be right on that one.....Guess I've to rephrase my Question as "50-overs ODI" (10 over limit per bowler....)....
Guys, I seem to remember it's Sunil Joshi against South Africa...
Perfect Rom & Vivek!!! (Yes, I was referring to both Viveks then... ) I still vividly recall watching that match.....and Joshi was bowling like..... man....can't use words here......the SA batsmen (SA was a much much better...and one of the top teams then....if you remember)......they seemed to have no clue on how to face his bowling!!!! He returned with figures of 10-6-6-5 (10 overs, 6 maidens, 6 runs & 5 wickets.....) If only he had taken one more wicket....he'ld have held the record of the best ever bowling figures by an Indian in ODI's .....whatever.....it was still one of the best bowling spells I got to witness....
Yes Vivek (PM ) Bedi holds it for overall.....that's why I re-phrased my question to 50-overs ODI.....
Next, another interesting one.......
Which Indian bowler holds the record of being the ONLY Indian bowler to have taken a wicket off his very first bowl in ODI Cricket???
To be honest.......I think....I'll change the rule for maybe only THIS Question a bit... (what with Mandrake already giving the green-signal to do so.... No offence Rom and others... )
I think there shoudn't be any clues given for this question.....but if anyone here still insist, I can come up with the choices...... But would be great to see someone answer this one without any clues.... (Koi plss mujhe aakar peeto mat!!! )
Peetunga nahin... par answer bata doon itni jaldi?
Rom.....thanks for being so understanding enough........that this question is a beauty.... No no....lets wait... let people try re.....nahin toh yeh question poochne ka poora maza hi nikal jaayega na.... (For obvious reasons...)
RULE: Please be sporting enough and try giving the answer honestly....don't refer to any kinda material or net..... Just give it a try honestly...
My God.....Looks like we are ending up changing as many rules as possible for this Question..... I think it would be nice if the 'honestly pata hone wale log' wait till the 'honestly nahin pata hone wale' give it a try......then.....there would be more fun...in finally revealing the answer na... :
All right, I'll only give a clue here... It's not somebody whose last name rhymes with 'firni'!
WOWOW!!!! Wat a clue Man!!! :rolff:
ITNA BADA CLUE DE DIYA!!!! Yeh tune kya kar diya Rom!!! :rolff:
What are you rolling on the floor for? That was a big clue, in case someone was mistakenly going to name the guy who took a wicket with his first ball in Test cricket for India!
Yes....you are right Rom...
Often am... thanks!
Nobody knows the answer, GK!
Waise yahan ek ladki aayi thhi jo kehti thhi she knows about cricket... usey bhi nahin pata, shayad...
Aisa karo, aap 4 choices daal hi dijiye, GK...
OHOH......So much for my trying to build up suspense and all
ok...the choices are:-
A. TINU YOUHANAN
B. NARENDRA HIRWANI
C. HARVINDER SINGH
D. SADAGOPAN RAMESH
Is that more fair now???
Yes, a level playing field, for both geniuses and duh folks... lets' see now...
Oh Yes......Level Playing field.....kitna sochna pada choices decide karne mein..... Hehehe......
Ab clue bhi de dein? Shayad Priya-ji ko clues milen to bata saken?
Any one in need of any other 5th, 6th & 7th clues???
Yaar GK, I have come to this bitter, horrible inescapable conclusion... Nobody visits this thread apart from the two of us.... Sad but true...
Or we're dealing with a bunch of bl**dy billionaires...
Nopes!
chalo.....koi do billionaires aa toh gaye!!!!
so whats the correct ans gk? my guess Narendra Hirwani
NAM McLean c Mohanty b Ramesh 23
India v West Indies at Singapore, 5 Sep 1999
So there - answer is S Ramesh.
BEAUTIFUL~!!!!!!!!!!!! CLASSY ANSWER PRANAV!!! Bilkul Sahi Jawaab!!!!!!
How interesting, isn't it??? Sadagopan Ramesh holds the world record, of being the ONLY Indian to have taken a wicket off his very first ball in ODIs!!!
PS: I did expect.......that not many would be knowing this.......Dunno, whether Ramesh himself remembers it... But that's sure a RARE record to hold!!! Good one!!!!! That was sure a beauty of a question......wasn't it???
Yes, very interesting question indeed!! I think Mohanty and Rohan Gavaskar both got a wicket in the first over that they bowled for India, but not the first ball! There may be more who took wicket in their first over while playing for India in ODIs but I just remember the above two.
Pranav
Absolutely right Pranav Ji!!!!! Yes, here too only those two names are coming to my mind....(the ones having taken a wicket in their very first over).....but the wicket off the very first ball...is sure some rare feat....
Ok......Now..for the next one......
Q. Till date, only 2 Indians have been awarded the Academy Award (Oscar). One was the famous Costume Designer Ms.Bhanu Athaiya, for the film "GANDHI". Who is the other one?
A. Satyajit Ray (Lifetime Achievement)
B. Pt. Ravi Shankar (Original Music score for Gandhi)
C. Dr.L.Subramaniam (Original Music score for "THE LITTLE BUDDHA")
D. Ms. Bhanu Athaiya (Again, for another film, apart from Gandhi)
Answer : A, Satyajit Ray ... Rite ?
B : Pt. Ravi Shankar was nominated for the music in "Gandhi" ...
Satyajit Ray (for Lifetime Achievement)
Me need 'jaadu ki jhappi' for this
Anyone else trying yet???
Google is a wonderful thing
Source - http://www.satyajitray.org/about_ray/introduction.htm
In 1992, Satyajit Ray received the honorary Academy Award ©A.M.P.A.S. ® - Lifetime Achievement - "In recognition of his rare mastery of the art of motion pictures and for his profound humanitarian outlook, which has had an indelible influence on filmmakers and audiences throughout the world."
Shyam Ji ... this is true that "Satyajit Ray" was awarded the "Lifetime Achievement" award of
Oscar and Pt. Ravi Shankar was nominated for the music of "Gandhi" ... I don't know why did u
Still say "Any 1 else trying yet ?" ... if u had told "Only 2 Indians awarded" ... ???
Hehehhe......Beauty!!! Smart Work Pranav...
First Congratulations to Nature......for being the first one to get it right.... Yes, you are again right about Pt. Ravi Shankar getting nominated for Best Original Score for "Gandhi" in 1982!!! Well.......by saying "Anyone else trying yet"....I meant the participants here in the game....and not Indians trying for Oscar..... Since two players (You & Visuja) had given the right answer.......I just wanted to confirm...whether anyone else here is also trying, or should I come out with the result.....that's all...... Congrats once again!!!!
And here's your "Jaadu ki Jhappi" Vivek.....
PS: I Guess...the next KBC question here should be.....to solve the identity crisis.... Which of these is Visuja & which of these is ME???
Guys, since this d*%&ned google answers practically everything, I'm trying to ask a question that might be a bit hat-ke...
Several years ago, a PG Wodehouse book was adapted as a TV serial on Doordarshan... some of you might have have caught it, so would you remember which Wodehouse book was adapted for that one?
1: The Girl in Blue
2: Leave it to Psmith
3: Pigs Have Wings
4: Very Good, Jeeves
Not sure if there'd be an answer to this one...
Perhaps only Bertie Wooster would attempt an answer...
Priya too is a self-confessed PGW fan.....
She is? But she may not be such a cat when it comes to Hindi serials, you know... you have any clue? It happens to be one of my favourite Wodehouse books...
Not sure abou the serial's name, but the book's indeed Leave it to Psmith! Great show!
...and you thought I couldn't google this??????
http://wodehouse.ru/gu200702.htm
...In 1988, the state-run television network Doordarshan broadcast a 10-part Hindi adaptation of his 1923 classic Leave it to Psmith, with the Shropshire castle of the Earl of Emsworth becoming the Rajasthani palace of an indolent Maharaja. (The series was a disaster: Wodehousean purists were appalled by the changes, and the TV audience discovered that English humour does not translate too well into Hindi.)...
Pranav
I actually did think that this query would draw a blank at google.
So lets play for the next question..
which is the world's highest water fall?
Sorry no options.
Victoria Falls in Venezuela. Not sure of the height though
http://www.world-waterfalls.com/database.php?s=N&t=H&orderby=height&sortLimit=300
Yes, no marks for guessing where I got this information from
OK, now one question from me...try googling this
Which is the youngest country in the world?
Pranav
Ye KBC mein google kahaan se aa gaya !
No idea Pranav. Lost track of countries and capitals since high school days when we had competitions as to who remembers the most number of capitals and we played something called "Name Place Animal Thing" !!
WOW!!!!!! Cool man....'Name Place Animal Thing'!!!! LOL!!!! Puraani yaadein taazaa ho gayi!!!!
OK, here's the hint. You can find it easily on google Also, think about who will have list of all the countries in the world.
Pranav
Who will have list of countries: USA. Kab kiske maamle mein kaise taang adhaana hai.. track rakhna padta hai na !
LOL!!!
Good one! Although not the correct answer, you are on the right track!
Pranav
Perfect answer!! I was hinting at UN...they have list of all the countries and the date on which they became the members. East Timor is the 191st member and the youngest country to be formed.
Pranav
No , there are total 260 Countries in the World. Would like to know all
Names and see their FLAGS ? well, then I will come soon with them !!!
Ok.. then... A simple one on Computers. Anyone who has studied computers in elementary school must answer this.
Who amongst the following is considered Father of Computing?
A. Archimedes.
B. Charles Babbage.
C. Edsger W. Dijkstra
D. Bill Gates
Cheers,
I studied computer but I am not sure of the answer!!! Although, I am quite sure about my guess - Charles Babbage.
Pranav
A glow in a planet's ionosphere caused by the interaction between the planet's magnetic field and charged particles from the sun is known as what?
A-Aurora
B-Sun Spot
C-Red Gaint
D-Nebula
I would guess Aurora - by eliminating possibilities
Sun spots I think are ON sun not on planets
Red Giant is type of star I think
Nebula is also not right, me thinks
So that leaves Aurora
Pranav
Ok Aurora Borealis and Aurora Australis - what's the difference? Meaning, where do they occur?
Aurora Borealis - in the northern hemisphere ... easily visible in Scandinaviam countries, northern parts of Greenland, Canada and Siberia.
Aurora Australis --- name says it all !! Southern hemisphere ... named so because Australia is the only large landmass in parts of the southern hemisphere where the auroras could be widely seen.
As for difference: i think no difference at all ! Just different names...
I have aquery though : does the auroras occur all round the year or are there seasons ? I mean.. apart from sunspot seasons !!
Oye Vivekkkk!!! Kahis mujhe idhar 'google' ki boo toh nahi aa rahi??
Anyways, aurorae occur due to the geomagnetic storms. These are caused by the solar eruptions (which keep happening alllll the time). However, only those eruptions that are on the earth-side cause these storms.
The aurorae typically happen at higher altitudes, but have also been seen at lower altitudes over Northern Africa.
At upper altitudes, they are observed in all colours, but at lower altitudes, they are principally red in colour.
Would have loved to ask you 'why red'?. But I guess you are smart enough to think VIBGYOR and tell me that red is at the end of the spectrum
Just for your info, earthlings don't particularly welcome these things, as they can play havoc with electromagnetic systems, power-grids, air-traffic control systems, instrumentation systems on planes....
Mandrake !! ...getting back at me is it ! Itna astronomy knowledge / interest hai mujhmein
You have typed 'altitudes' at all three places !! .. did u really mean 'altitudes' or was it 'latitudes' !?? I tht they were visible only near the poles .... I forget the reason though ... magnetic field being rarest there and so easy to enter the earth's atmosphere..or soemthing like that...
And auroras visible over Northern Africa !! Thats really news ! Apna magnetic field wakaai mein palat raha hai kya ki itne low latitude pe field is weak !! ... had watched a few doomsday type programs on discovery on magnetic pole reversals !
Aur aapki spectrum waali baat mere palle nahin padi ! .... me very poor at understanding anything thats got to do with spectrum ....chaahe spectral shifts ho, ya other electromagnetic spectral phenomena ho ....ya phir audio spectrum hi kyun na ho !!.... (samajhta to shaayad suron ko pakad paata )
Vivek-ji, aapne ttheek kaha!! The altitude should be read as 'latitude'
Charged particles enter the earth's atmosphere where the magnetosphere shield is at it's weakest. That's typically over the poles. However, if one follows the lines of the magnetic fields, there are other weak spots too.
And in case you weren't aware, the north and south poles (magnetic - I mean) have been flipping over quite a few times in the past.
Ofcourse "CHARLES BABBAGE" ... here is a short note about him.
" Charles Babbage Born December 26, 1791 in Teignmouth, Devonshire UK, Died 1871, London;
Known to some as the "Father of Computing" for his contributions to the basic design of the
computer through his Analytical machine. His previous Difference Engine was a special purpose
device intended for the production of tables. While he did produce prototypes of portions of the
Difference Engine, it was left to Georg and Edvard Schuetz to construct the first working devices to
the same design which were successful in limited applications. "
****************************
Dear J Bakshi Ji , I don't know much about the statement "191st Country is the youngest" . . .
But I am quite sure about the number 191. Total 191 countries are the members of U.N. , but
"Vatican City" is not a memeber of U.N. ... Well, I must have to count again and rewrite.

ps In Australia we had our first ever millionaire winner in " Who wants to be a Millionaire" contest this week.
Here's an extract from a news item :
The Times October 18, 2005
Which country was last to win a million?
SIX years and more than 600 contestants after it began, the Australian version of Who Wants to be a Millionaire? finally has a millionaire winner of its own.
Rob Fulton, a university dropout who had just A$2 left in his bank account, became the first Australian participant to answer all 15 questions and clinch the ultimate prize of A$1 million.
Australia was the only one of the 106 nations which show the programme yet to produce a top prize winner. Mr Fulton, a 36-year-old graphic designer from Sydney, won the television quiz thanks to an extensive knowledge of popular 1960s television shows.
He correctly identified the television programme that was shown first from a choice of Bewitched, Get Smart, Hogan"s Heroes and I Dream of Jeannie. The answer was Bewitched in 1964, a year earlier than the other programmes.
Since Who Wants to be a Millionaire? hit Australian screens in 1999, it has handed out A$25.5 million in prize money, but had failed to produce a top prize winner. Mr Fulton, nicknamed Coach after the rugby league player Bob Fulton, was the first actually to attempt the final question after nine previous contestants played the safer option and walked away with A$500,000.
Mr Fulton said: I"ve always wanted to lock in an answer for the million dollars. Either way I would make game show history as the biggest loser or the biggest winner, life's too short and I wouldn't want to die wondering.
Of his final question, Mr Fulton said: I think I owe that to my Mum for actually putting me in front of the telly as a young kid.
Bhirgu ji you owe me 28 lakhs over that scam that happened during your ** days
