Hamara Forums _ Games N' Puzzles _ Can You Identify The Song...?
Posted by: simplefable Jun 19 2008, 04:07 PM
Now, i literally stole the idea from Humtum Bhai..and Venkat.
I had some time to kill too hence the initiation. The idea is simple enough. A little music bit will be uploaded. You just have to identify the song. The file is uploaded on a third party site, so that valuable Ratio wont be wasted on our Quiz. I start this with my altime favourite song. Ofcourse, am sure that you people will come out with in no time with an answer...
It is amazing how these music seeps into our brains to stay there forever. I still remember the order of songs in those cassettes we got recorded in local music shop..which we did two decades before...Even when the cassettes themselves got sucked into the blackholes of time ...Yaadein to rehjate hain !

If I am not wrong....then it is the immortal song of Md. Rafi sahab from the film Kaajal...and one of my favourite songs of Rafi sahab..
Chhoo Lene Do Nazuk Honthon Ko
Am I right Simpleji??? or anything else

SF ,
Hearty congrats for starting this thread. I know this will be a roaring hit!
Biswas Ji is absolutely right.
That is the pre-Antara interlude bit. You can hear after that music, "Achhon Ko Bura Sthabith Karna Duniya Ki Purani Aadat Hai"!

I think in this quiz, anyone shuld be allowed to throw up a question for others to answer! Right?
Next, I think the scope of this quiz should be all pre-1980 HFM.
Your views, SF and others?

Subir Ji,
I must congratulate you for giving that interlude of that great song, "Zulfon Ki Ghata Lekar". In fact, Its instrumusic is superb, what with a peculiar percussion that keeps the song going throughout!
But, don't you think that was a tough Q?
Venkat

Tough one, SF. But you need to clarify which one is which, prelude or interlude?
Posted by: simplefable Jun 20 2008, 10:23 AM
Venkat..both are interludes..before first and second stanzas. Prelude to the song is....too much obvious as there is a chorus. Will upload it too..if you want it..

Venkat..both are preludes..before second and third stanzas. Prelude to the song is....too much obvious as there is a chorus. Will upload it too..if you want it..
Some nomenclature issues need sorting out. Prelude is just opening music before the song starts. Interlude is all the musical bits that come after the song starts, including the ones between Mukhda and Antara!
Venkat
PS. If you call the music between Mukhda and Antara as Prelude, then everything is Prelude only!
Posted by: simplefable Jun 20 2008, 10:29 AM
Sorry Venkat..it is a typo..i edited my post, but you were first.
Both are interludes...there will be only one prelude for a song..right ?
Posted by: venkat Jun 20 2008, 10:36 AM
Ok, so, both are interludes. But, that does not take me any nearer the answer. I give up for others like Anupama Ji to come in!
One more thing. It is necessary to give a distinct ID No. for each Question. By that , you can handle multiple Q's simultaneously, before one or more are answered!
Venkat
Posted by: simplefable Jun 20 2008, 10:41 AM
Venkat..yes, that makes sense, to give numbers for the files. If Choo lene do..is Song 1, Julfon ki ghata lekar.. is song 2...what i posted will be song 3. the clues may be numbered Song 3..clue 1...so forth.. That should do it..?
BTW, i got this familiar software in spanish version..and that stores sound files as... Nuevo archivo de sonido by default, which i presume to be New Sound file.. now, music is indeed universal.

Quiz No. 4 .........Clue No. 1
http://www.mediafire.com/?2wegl2hbegi
SF, just d/led this and got it in the first hearing.
The Answer:
"Chand Aahen Bharega, Phool Gul--- Lenge, Husn Ki Baat Chali To Sab Tera Naam Lenge"
A great Mukesh song (MD:KA) from Film:Phool Bane Angaare(1963).Well, I do not have this song in my collection, but I am sure of the answer!
Venkat
PS. Actually, even if you had given the prelude as the first clue to that Paigham song earlier, it would still have been adequately diffcult.
One more thing. The musical bits which are different and somewhat off-track, like the one given by Subir Ji from Reshmi Rumaal and your this Chand Aahen Bharega one, are the appropriate ones for this quiz. Just an opinion. Need not be right!
Venkat

QUOTE(simplefable @ Jun 21 2008, 09:05 AM)
Venkat...That is marvelous. the way you recognized the song...
I could have come out with the answer for the Paigham song..but not this one. May be because they are our favourites..?
It is difficult to comprehend what you mean by off-track..as i am literally novice when it comes to taala..and raaga...or even some instruments which are played in the song..
Anyway..will try to pick something which all will enjoy.. Most of the preludes will be easily recognized..but not the interludes....that is why the inclination is towards them...May be we can keep the prelude as the final clue??
Nice to continue this theoretical discussion.
True, actually that Paigham song is not one of my great favorites. All the other three, Kajal, Phool Bane Angare, and Reshmi Rumaal, are my favorite songs, but with a difference again. The Kajal song is all too popular. Hence no fun! The Phool Bane and Reshmi Rumaal songs are realtively rarer and at the same time very nice songs. Hence, all the more thrilling to catch them!
Again, my own weird musings!
Venkat
PS. Yet again, we cannot generalize on preludes and interludes. Some interludes are easier than preludes too!

QUIZ No 5http://www.mediafire.com/?h92tmrbvjhu
Could not get it, SF.
But, once again a few suggestions, as you are willing to listen!
Wherther prelude or interlude, you should u/l the entire (100%) bit leading all the way upto the vocals of the singer. What I mean is that you should not cut short that prelude or interlude or whatever. The reason is that a musical bit will reach the song's scale only at its very end. If it is stopped short (even by 4 or 5 seconds), it will give a wrong signal.
Hope I could communicate.
Venkat
PS. Incidentally, in the Quiz 5 bit that you u/led, it is not that piano or piano-like instru. that throws the light, but it is the accordion that comes in the second 21 seconds. It is that accordion part that has an unmistakeable SJ stamp.
Actually, it sounded very much like the music of "Bol Ri Kat Putli Dole Kaun Sang" song from Kat Putli by Lata.

Subir Ji,
Answer to Quiz No. 6 (Actually, this should be 7 and the Maine Chand Aur Sitaaron should be 6! Questioners, be correct in No.s!):
I shall give the answer in code language! The Film's name starts with S. The Leading Actor's name starts with R and that of the Leading Actress with V. The MD's name with S! It is the interlude music. It is a duet of a pair which sang the highest no. of duets together!

Fact is that unless you love the song...and already heard for a number of times, we just cant guess the right answer...my idea.
But as Venkat said...may be time for someone else to post the songs..?
here is the song from Kathputli posted on mediafire..as the bit rate is very low..
http://www.mediafire.com/?jkcyx19wj9x
Here is one more example of what I am saying...i give this link for a SiX second prelude..out of 21 seconds..and am sure that you will jump to an answer with in seconds..
What i normally do is play the bit on media player or some other software in repeat mode..so the bit keeps on playing in cycle..and Voila..the idea might hit you ...
Try it. http://www.mediafire.com/?wbzggwcttbz
Sf, rule violation!
You have not given the Quiz No. to this Main Ne Chand Aur Sitaaron song. It should be Quiz No. 6 and the next one by Subir Ji is Quiz No. 7.
SF, I, as Subir Ji, still maintain that the entire prelude or interlude needs to be there. It doesn't matter in easy exceptions. But, in relatively tougher cases, you need to use your musical instinct in replying. There, the completeness of the bit helps!

SF, normally, I draw a line at 1968/69. From here, frankly, I do not have a liking for HFM, be it Rafi Saab's songs or others' songs!
Strictly a personal view.

Not actually so easy,I think i got it, because i have most of those songs
Posted by: simplefable Jun 22 2008, 12:25 AM
i think the key lies in LISTENING...and not just having those beautiful songs. You will make the best DJ out there...
Posted by: venkat Jun 22 2008, 08:03 AM
In fact, there are three keys to this!
1. Knowing the song well by having it or even otherwise
2. More important, liking that song very much
2. Most important, a very good musical ear.
For example, out of the 11 clips uploaded so far (other than my own two), I do not have any song with me except "Main Ne Chand Aur Sitaron".
But, I knew/replied 7 out of these 11, because I know and like very much six and I have, know and like very much one.
As for the other four, I do not only not have them, but out of these four, I do not know one and do not much like three, though I know them!

SF, Subir Ji had uploaded 3 clips (Reshmi Rumal, Suraj, Ek Raaz) and all the three are top-grade musical bits, which can compete with the song itself. Much like your own Kajal, Phool Bane Angaare, Baradari and Chandrakanta ones! The musical bit, to be special, has got to have a character! There are plenty of preludes/interludes otherwise which are life-less and dull-as-dust!

Anupama ji,
As I do not have this song, I ask this question. Is it the same song in which words like, 'Bujhe Koyi Naina Babu" (may not be exact words!) occur?
If it is, I too have caught the song, but was groping for the lyrics! If no, then I am off-track!

I too just heard that song from Musicindia, but it is not the one. I have taken it as another fairly popular OPN-Geeta song where such words exist. But, unfortunately, I do not know the starting line of even that.
So, let it pass!

Actually, in my humble opinion, the musical bits given in the Quizzes should be bits with an identity of their own and should have been quite ear-catching during their days!
Also, they should be no more than 70% tough, whatever that means! It is easy to give an obscure/rare bit of an obscure/rare song which no one can catch! But, that is not the idea.
Trying to practise what I preached above!
