I was listening to this number earlier today and realized that this has not been uploaded here in a while.

Anyways here is nice number from Raj Tilak. Raj Kumar Kohli, famous for churning out multi-starers had huge cast in this. Movie was about price loosing his empire to baddies. Prince, Kamal Hasan ends up with Banjaras.
This particular song had him doing rodeo kind of stuff and then dancing with Ranjeeta and Reena Roy among others. Hema too pitches in with few thumakas. Dharamendra and Sunil Dutt, with swords out, scanning crowd. This was all just before big action sequence.

Raj Tilak - Aa Gaye Aa Gaye
8:03 long
128 kbps

1984
Guru with Alka, Sadhna

Music: Kalyanji Anandji
Cast: Sunil Dutt, Dharmendra, Kamal Hassan, Ranjeeta, Hema Mailini, Reena Roy
Director: Raj Kumar Kohli

Here goes the full version of "Dekho Yeh Naari Hai Khota Rupaiyya"

Music by Bappi and well not so female friendly lyrics, so to say, by Gauphar Kanpuri. Naari is equated to Khota Rupaiyaa.
Stage Show song had Prema Naraynan dancing with some guy with funny accent. Seriouly, his accent was amazing jaise bijli ka current laga ho.

Haiwaan - Dekho Yeh Naari Hai Khota Rupaiyya
6:53 Long - 128kbps
1977

Kishore (Solo)
Music: Bappi Lahiri
Lyrics: Gauphar Kanpuri
Cast: Rakesh Roshan, Prem Narayan, Deb Mukherjee, Joy Mukherjee
Director: Ram Rano

Guys, whats up with second version of Main hun ghoda yeh hai gaadi? Are you aware of that?
I was at desi store this evening and he had this CD laying there catching dirt, anyways I picked up and saw track one said – Main hun ghoda yeh hai gaadi.. and track 5 said same. That got me thinking, how could that be? I had to pick that up and I did too and found that track one is 6:25 long and track 5 is 3:31 long. I have not listened to both yet but will do fursat main, probably over the weekend and have lot of catch up to do too… but are you guys aware of any differences or second one is just the chopped version. I have vague memories of this movie, saw this long ago

Marcilobhai is it released or unreleased version? unsure.gif In the movie I remember the song coming right in the beginning with Mehmood taking the child on his rickshaw and the kid growing up while Mehmood turns old. laugh.gif

Few days ago there was this discussion about Guru's ancestral home in Khandwa on one of yahoo groups. All thanks to gentleman who posted that info there.

What caught my attention was mention of one name. The name of caretaker of ancestral home. The name was "Seeta Ram". I knew I have heard that name many time, more retrospection got me thinking, yes yes, I do know this name. I have heard this in Guru's voice.

I kept wondering if the man himself was inspiration for Guru to say his name? Possible, or may be just coincidence. We all know about "baam chik.. baam chik" number. There is another one that has this name, well based on what I can recollect, it's from "Who din yaad karo".
Now do you guys know any such song where this name was mentioned? If so please pitch in

Short and sweet... Bechare Bappida...almost did not remember the lyrics of that song... biggrin.gif ... Note how comfortable he is with the Pag Ghungroo song... someone should interview him at lenght about his association with KK... composed such superb tracks for him in the seventies and even in the eighties when the quantity vs quality equation got a little lopsided, he still came up with gems like Pag Ghungroo. Thanks Marc.

Yes, he was very fluent when it came to Pag ghunghroo band meera naachi thi… and that is what confused me, since they were talking about Guru's last day and last song, Bappi da went on a tangent.

Guru shared special bond with bappi da, aab mama bhanja ka rishta jo hua

Marcie, what is the duration of the Track No. 2 from "Kunwara Baap"? As per VN's book, this song has two versions, one solo and one duet...though the solo was not released on the music discs...

Imran, i do not have proper versions of this song and would prefer waiting for someone, who has proper versions, to upload...else let's wait for Marcie to upload this when he gets time...

Thanks HumTum for the "Chori Chori" song from "Sone Pe Suhaga"...I didnot have the full version...

Eskayesbhai --- there is no concern or worries for 1. Marcilobhai will not delete the file (yesterday, being my downloading day, I noticed many files have vanished before the time limit of one month ohmy.gif - who deleted them? ) 2. I just happened to watch Indian idol today, well been busy so I had not watched much of TV and here I was, "idle" watching "idol", today. I finished dinner and decided to watch some TV.
Last time when I watched this show there were hordes of people in there, it was really hard to remember what all were they singing and who sang what, the only time I like to watch this show or for that matter American idol is when they have preliminary rounds. Boy, no pun intended but that is one hell of a treat. Imagine guys singing "har ghadi badal rahi hai roop zindagi…. Chaown hai kabhi.. kabhi hai Bhoot.. zindagi" I nearly fell lauffing from couch and that unfurled wraps sitting atop William hung's performance. Certain things are hard to forget. Nothing for singing but if they sing two lines they better least remember lyrics

Anyways not to deviate from what I wanted to talk about, let me get back to my original thought process. So, today on show there were only five contestants. Out of five, four were boys and they were in for "disco" round.
Well that is what they said was on, the disco episode. Out of four, 3 guys picked up guru songs. Man, I was amazed how his songs still rule the roast. More reasons to be surprised was the fact they picked his three numbers for disco singing, i mean Bappi was marked as disco king so why Guru? First guy picked up om shanti om (karz) and next one did another karz song, which happens to be one of my favorite number too, eek haseena thi… this is one such number that pushes extra bit of adrenaline into my blood stream whenever I listen to this song,. Guru's flawless singing made this number a huge hit.
Anyways, Last guy picked up sara zamana (yaarana) number.
The word disco itself elucidates strong beats, good dance, pulsating lights and to me it was either John Travolta lipping BEEGEE's "staying alive" or Bappi's "I am a disco dancer". I won't count Boney M here, they are not to be enumerated since they were out and out disco band. It sure was a pleasant surprise that they picked up his numbers and made me redefine my perspective on disco. So yes, when word disco flashes my mind next time I will be thinking about "Mein Akela Aur Dilbar" from Kaun Kaise or may be "Ae o A.. Zara mud ke" from disco dancer.

Any takers on more prospective disco numbers from Guru?

Marci, there are many songs which have a disco flavor, mostly Bappi and Panchamda numbers. Some K-A and S-J tracks can also be classified as disco-ish. Some of the songs which come to my mind are:

Tu Main Ban Gaya - Aamne Saamne
Aaya Sanam Aaya Deewana Tera - Bade Dilwala
Disco 82 - Khuddar
Dekhta Hoon Koi Ladki Haseen - Sanam Teri Kasam
Ae Duniya Tujhko Salaam - Pyar Ka Mandir
Nahin Nahin Abhi Nahin - Jawani Diwani
Ladki Kaise Phasai Jaati Hai - 3D Saamri
Bada Shaitaan Hai Dil - Imaandar
Mano Mano Ya Na Mano - Zameen Aasmaan

Open to corrections.

Mujahid what about Hum dono song? Josh jawani tauba re tauba? And one more that comes to my mind with disco music - karwat badal badal.. though I do not know how it was picturised. biggrin.gif

Well, depends on how you look at it, Marci. I'd say the music is a bit fast and contains elements of techno or Rock-n-Roll. Can be left out.

Some more:
Mere Liye Tu Bani - Do Gulab
Aao Mere Yaaro Aao - Rocky

Irony

Fiddler on the roof happens to be Guru's favorite musical. Other day I saw the cover of this ACD and was surprised to see what was written under track number 19 - "neither in original motion picture score nor in motion picture soundtrack album". I am not a great fan of musicals but this kept me thinking, a thought process that I could relate to.

Was this the score that guru was looking for? Or was this that unreleased song that he wanted to listen to? Isn't it ironical? We look for his unreleased songs, we try hard to lay our hands on those "not in motion picture soundtrack" songs and what is the probability that he too was in the same boat. Does this album has all what he was looking for, may be or may be not.

Marcilo...

Here's more food for thought on possibly what Kishore might have been searching for. These tracks were removed pre-production:

NEVER RECORDED:

  1. "The Rumor" which was always played in the musical but never got recorded for the movie itself
  2. Perchik's "Now I have Everything"

RECORDED:
Perchik's "Any Day Now." This one was obviously recorded but taken out of the show before it was filmed

Posted by: Marcilo Oct 24 2007, 12:42 AM

Ok I can understand that "The Rumor" was only part of musical and was never recorded but what about "Now I have Everything". I do not see that on CD list either.

On a different note, have you seen this musical, I am the play. Did Broadway stage this extensively before it was made into a movie?

Posted by: iluvsydney Oct 24 2007, 12:58 AM

Sorry Marcilo... I forgot to mention about "Now I have Everything" as well. It was a part of the play as well before the movie. The movie itself wasn't a xerox copy of the theatrical version

I have seen it, however not on Broadway

The original Broadway production opened on Sept. 22, 1964 (at Imperial, and then moved on to Majestic and then Broadway) and was seemingly the first musical to surpass the 3,000 performance mark (total 3,242) and it actually held that record for the longest-running Broadway musical for almost 10 years until Grease came along. The initial choice to play Tevye in the movie was actually Zero Mostel who had played the role on Broadway

Posted by: King Kishore Oct 24 2007, 01:36 PM

Although I havent seen the play, but I have seen the movie several times.
And believe me I cannot see anybody doing the role of Tevye except Topol.

This is one of my most-adored films and when I came to know Guru loved it too, felt good. smile.gif

Faasle - Chandni Tu Hai Kahan 2:47 long

Form the house of Yash Raj films, came Faasle. Movie was very first of Farah Naaz. She did look very promising with Faasle and Love 86. She was paired alongside Rohan Kapoor, son of legendary singer Mahendra kapoor. After a while he evaporated into ether

Romantic number from Shiv Hari had Lata & Guru singing. Lata's part is more of traditional Heer Ranjha type "Booliyaan"

Music: Shiv-Hari
Lyrics: Shahryar
Cast: Sunil Dutt, Rekha, Rohan Kapoor, Raj kiran, Farha, Deepti Naval, Farooque Shaikh
Producer : Yash Chopra
Director : Yash Chopra

I will have to check if I have this movie or not but I know I have Audio CD for sure

I saw this one long ago. Movie was about two couples. Pre interval, Couple A is very much in love and couple B has all sorts of issues. Post interval equation changes with Couple A falling apart and couple B forming strong bond, hence name of the movie Sawag Narak. Couple A had Jeetu and B had vinod Mehra. Sanjeev Kumar plays role of sootra dhaar

I have the same DVD. Infact it's a double DVD set. 100 songs in 2 Discs.

Now if you can see those VOB files, that is where you data is. VOB files hold your DVD data. So you do have files but u need encoder to get MPEG out

Chhotu I will mail you a s/w check if you can see the files through that software. But it is only an audio grabber not a video. Let us check if that software can crack into the puzzle of those invisible files. I will mail you after sometime.

Lot of people when talk about Namak Halal, talk about Pag ghungroo bandh song. Yes, beyond doubt Bappi churned out excellent music with this song and song was a runaway hit too. But song that I find very intriguing is Aaj rapat jayeen, wow …the wet oomph of dusky Smitha and charm of Amitabh blended with voices of Guru and Asha made this song as one of my favorite rain numbers. Yes this was overshadowed by the success of Pag ghungroo but it still is one of the very best that Bappi produced.

Can this pass as seduction song, lol heck yes why not?
Haseena dari dari… baahon mai seemat gayi…. Seene se lipat gaayi re… Doesn't seduction get its highest crest with this?

One song that makes me hummmm all the time is jaadugar jaadu kar jayee ga… song starts on an easy note as if guru was leisurely strolling in woods. He was known to talk to trees and called trees as his friends. In real sense they are true friends, they mean no harm to any one and are there to give and only give. This song, the start, comes very close to that. Walk in the woods with his Leo swagger, that is how much at ease he was with his singing. Just simple, plain and effortless go at melody and that too throughout the song.

Way to go, clap1.gif clap1.gif this is my song for the day
