Hamara Forums Radio
As most of you all know that HF Radio has been installed on Hamara Forums. HF Radio is available on the index page of the board, placed way down below Board Statistics.
Listening to Hamara Forums Radio
You can tune into the stream with winamp player. As the stream is ACCPLUS encoded, only http://RadioLinks/listen.pls player above 5.08 versions are supported. Using winamp I was able to successfully tune into the stream from behind firewall at the office and at home.
Download the full winamp for free from http://www.winamp.com/player/free.php After you have downloaded and installed latest version of Winamp. The following steps were contributed by Azgar Khan (thanks Azgar)
- Open Winamp Player
- Click on File
- Click on Play URL
- Type http://www.hamaraforums.com:8000 . (If you are behind a firewall, type http://radio.hamaraforums.com:80 )
- Click on Open
HF Radio Schedules
http://www.hamaraforums.com/index.php?showtopic=16525 is a thread dedicated to book a scheduled program on HF Radio. The thread is updated daily with all the upcoming and changed events.
How to become a DJ? You can also become a DJ on Hamara Forums Radio.
Only one DJ can play a time. To become a DJ, ensure that you have the latest winamp player installed.
- Launch Winamp
- Press Ctrl + P or from the menu select Options -> Preferences
- From the listing on the left, select DSP/Effect
- Select Nullsoft SHOUTcast Source DSP v1.9.0 . If this is not listed, you need to install this plugin. The plugin is available at http://www.shoutcast.com/downloads/shoutcast-dsp-1-9-0-windows.exe. Download this file and install it.
- In the opened dialog SHOUTcast Source
- Click on Encoder tab.
- Select ACC+ Encoder from the Encoder Type select box. The Current bitrate will be set to 48kbps. If you need to change it, click on the button, Encoder Settings.
- Click on Output tab, enter hamaraforums.com in the Address, 8000 in the Port. Get the password from the admins and enter that password in the Password text box.
- Click on Yellowpages button and check Make this server public, enter your name or a friendly DJ Name in the Description, http://www.hamaraforums.com in the URL textbox and Bollywood in Genre.
- Click on Connect button on the top. Now you should be able to connect if everything goes correct. If some other DJ is connected, you will not be able to connect to the server.
- Once you are connected to the server, simply select the files in the winamp and play it.
The songs that you play will be streamed to the server and listeners connected to the server will be able to listen to your stream.
Mix your voice in the songs you play - Attach the microphone in the mic socket of the sound card.
- Click the input tab in the SHOUTcast Source.
- Select Soundcard Input from the Input Device.
- The Soundcard Mixer will be shown below.
- Click and hold the button Push to Talk and speak into the microphone. You will see the music volume will automatically go down. After you are through with all the talks, release the button.
- Select back Winamp from the Input Device select box for the rest of the song to proceed with 100% quality and volume.
Feel free to raise any questions you may have.

WOW great info Pradeep Bhai, I want to be a DJ.
AND
Thanks for HamaraForum RADIO. HF is getting better and better everyday.

Pradeep bhai, is Winamp a must? I mean will nothing else do?
Posted by: Pradeep Oct 11 2005, 10:39 PM
YM, the Nullsoft SHOUTcast Source DSP v1.9.0 seems to be working only with winamp. I havent tested it on other players. I am unable to get JetAudio to use this plugin. So I guess winamp is a must to be a DJ.
Posted by: AzgarKhan Oct 12 2005, 12:15 AM

I listened to it last night after getting instructions from Pradeep. Fantastic experience and the song from 12O'clock was great. A big thank you to Pradeep.
You are right Azgar Bhai. Hamara Forums is certainly getting better all the time. We have come a long way from the old Yahoo MAS days.
YM, am not sure but when you do your stint as a DJ, can you stream all those lovely dialogues from movies or this radio only meant to play songs?

hahha.. not to worry. I am trying to provide an interface for members who can enable and disable the default playing of HF Radio. So if one wishes to wear the RJ shoes, simply click on a button/link which will stop the HF Radio so that he/she can connect to the Radio to stream. After he/she is through put back the HF Radio auto play on.

Nature bhai, the idea is great. Par Uske liye shaayad mixer (hardware) sab chahiye. I need to search the net if there are any software tools which would mix on real time. Plus the person who will be willing to talk should have little technical knowledge. I am sure it would happen as the time progresses.

... I am Loving it...
Dil Aaj Shayar Hai. When we got our first VCR in 1989, Gambler was the first movie we watched on it. I buncked the school next day and over and over I was watching the movie and especially this song. Excellent singing by Kishore Da. Great composition by Neeraj Sahab and SDB. Dev Anand looks so cute in the mush.
My Next Request is on
. Comparing
Nothing is impossible and
Rani Nacho, I like this track more from Zakhmee. Lyrics by Gauhar Kanpuri and music by Bappi Da.
Na Pucho Koyi Hamen.. can easily be classified as a ghazal. Dim the room lights, sit in a corner and listen to this Indivar-Shyamal Mitra composition and think of all those lovely people those that have gone by during one point or another in ones life.
Ik Mahal Ma Cham Cham Karti Nimii introduced me to this song loooooong time back. Love the language, love the tune by Rajesh Roshan and wonderful lyrics by Gulzar Sahab. Picturized on Shahsi and Sanjeev? Movie Swayamvar. Speaking of Swayamwar love Rafi Sahab's and Lata Didi's
Mujeh Choo Rahi Hai.
Thank you Hitesh Bhai. I just woke up and you made my whole day

Is there a limit of 32 people who can tune in at any one time?
Anil
Posted by: Pradeep Oct 13 2005, 07:49 AM
Yes.. but that is just a value in the configuration. I'll increase that as we have more listeners. HF can support about 100 concurrent users on a 128kbps stream.

Didn't seem like KK at the first blush. The guy's a master at disguising his voice though. It may very well be him. I'll have to listen again.
One each from these movies coming up.

Most of them. Their concept is to take a catchy tune and repackage it in a way that appeals to the "I don't wanna listen to old songs 'coz they are old" crowd. Of the multiple remixers out there, the Vikings retain some semblance of originality...although they are already passe.

For those people who have problems with opening HF Radio by clicking links, here is an easy way to launch HF Radio in Winamp:
1) Open Winamp Player
2) Click on "File"
3) Click on "Play URL"
4) Type "http://www.hamaraforums.com:8000/" without quotes.
5) Click on "Open"

I think the port number might be an issue. Tried a few stations and te ones at 8000 are not playing it seems.
Apart from this, the 80's hit and Smooth Jazz is what I can easily tune into.

Would like to know if anyone with dial up is able to enjoy the radio properly. I tried listening a few days back and sound is excellent but real player stops every 5-10 secs and says connectong 99% so I virtually hear just 1/4 of the song; with media player it just goes on buffering and does not open at all and I do not use winamp so did not try that. I know Tji and co are all gung ho for 96 kbs or higher but does 24-32 kbs allow dial up users to listen without breaks? Is there an easier way for us deprived souls?
Also Pradeep, the chat room takes a long time to load again I guess only for dial up users. Is there a way to make it 'lighter'? I use the small window option. Phir bhi takes ages to load.
Posted by: Pradeep Oct 18 2005, 05:19 PM
Priya, it depends on what rate you connect at. Earlier I spoke of ACCPLUS and even streamed couple of songs using that. At 48kbps you can enjoy CD Quality songs. At 24 kbps you can enjoy fair quality song with good amount of stereo. Though when it comes to old recordings I don't find difference in 64 and 128kbps.
Speaking of chat, I don't think that is *only* for broadband. Probably first time load would take time since it has to load sounds, graphics etc. The negetive side of flash is it eats up RAM. So incase the system is slow, the system is dead.
As of now, there is no light version to the chat.
Posted by: Pradeep Oct 18 2005, 05:58 PM
The radio streams on port 8000. If that port is blocked by the ISP or the firewall. The software will not be able to connect. I am trying to get it to run on port 80 which is generally allowed/opened most of the times.

Pradeep , from reading all this post I think they facing more of a buffering problem than port problem. Well they can always test the ports by pinging or telneting into it.
I have seen people streaming at higher rate , once saw the stream even at 96kbps , which would sure cause buffering problem for low bandwidth users.

Jay, Shivani is facing the port problem. Other than 80, nothing seems to be working for her. But I tried to map the port to a new IP.. with no luck. On one system, I wonder how to configure to share ports by two different server softwares. I don't want to take huge risk since HF is quiet dominant and popular on port 80.
For buffering errors only solution is either the member should go for broadband connection or install winamp 5.1 and stick to AACPlus stream where 48kbps is equal to 128kbps in mp3. I find AACPlus solution far better since it is free and works on even old systems.
If we are going with aacplus, we need to ensure that every DJ streams only accplus streams so that all the listeners can enjoy with winamp 5.1.

You simply cant, you will have port conflicts and lets assume if there was such a way , and if anything happens it would bring down the whole Website serving at port 80. I assume right now you sharing 2 IPs on same server using different ports , which should be fine.

You know kya Pradeep , maybe just co-incidence as I will keep checking out as other people too DJ-ing today... The thing I noticed was first time I got buffering pause.. u think this could be due to port forwarding by firewall ????
Posted by: Pradeep Oct 20 2005, 06:52 AM
I doubt it since I was connected to port 80 and never experienced any such issues. Lets keep an eye on this. But I doubt it, since most are connected to port 8000 and only one or two on port 80 concurrent connections.

I've added a backup stream. When there are no DJs online, the backup stream is shown for members to listen and enjoy. It shows up as HF Music. Whenever a DJ comes back online, the backup stream is hidden away streaming the content that DJ wishes to stream.
This is to make sure HF is always online and streaming for the listeners
HF Music stream is always ON. If any member wishes to directly listen to it point your player to http://66.98.198.243:80/ or http://music.hamaraforums.com:80/

Since I didn't got enough time to investigate the HF Radio, I wonder what is the quality of the songs streamed. All CD qualities? I mean true CD Quality songs streamed at low bitrates OR is it the versions the forum members have which are being streamed by the DJ forum member?
Also it would be nice if it can be known which songs are going to be streamed next day(giving enough time to plan).

Any member can be a DJ and can stream. If the DJ streams at 96/128, the listeners get a CDQ, if they stream at 20kbps the listeners get radio quality. Generally 96kbps rules here.

I threw out real player as it was always popping up as the default streamer and now winamp does not play.
I noticed that even after making winamp the default player for all file types it does not play on double clicking a file. U have to open the file to play. Is that the case with everyone?

Priya, there was no need to throw real player out. What will you do if you have to play a real file - rm, ram etc.? For a file to be played as default on double click on winamp you will have associate the extension, .mp3 with winamp. To do that:
1. Launch winamp.
2. Press
Ctrl + P 3. Click on
File Types under
General Preferences.
4. Click and select all the
file types that you want to associate with winamp.
5. Click on
close.
6. Close winamp.
7. Go to any mp3 file and double click to test.
If you are installing real player again to play the real files. Then do the same steps again to associate mp3 files with the winamp.
Posted by: priya Nov 1 2005, 01:28 PM
Well now I have thrown it out and I cannot dl again. No free dl available.
But this winamp thing not working for me. Just now tried listening to U. It buffered for several secs and then played one nanoseocond of Ur song and then conked. Earlier when Sani wa splaying I could hear a bit tho it rebuffered every alternate sec.
Another day when hits played and I was listening on real player I could listen throughout without any rebuffering at all.
What could be wrong?
Posted by: Pradeep Nov 1 2005, 01:35 PM
At 24kbps also you cannot listen? At what rate do you connect to your ISP? Try disconnecting and reconnecting to your ISP. And while listening to Radio don't download or upload.
I hope you are using the latest winamp 5.11? Any version above 5.08 would work.
Download free real player from here: http://forms.real.com/netzip/intl/intl_getrde601.html?lang=en&h=software-dl.real.com&f=windows/mrkt/R30APD/RealPlayer10-5GOLD.exe&p=RealPlayer&oem=rp10_en_ap&src=011404intl_apac_home,012704radiopass_choice_dl_enapac&tagtype=ie&type=rp10_en_ap

I dunno at what rate I connect to my isp. It says 115 kbps.
Dunno if it is right or wrong.
I can listen but it breaks off. However last time I heard hits at an odd hr of the night India time it did not break at all. That was real player. This goes on rebuffering and sometimes just stops.
Haan latest player hi hai. Kal hi dl kiya.
Posted by: Pradeep Nov 1 2005, 02:21 PM
How can it be 115 kbps? or is it 11.5 kbps? Try in the night time.
Posted by: priya Nov 1 2005, 02:43 PM
Mere ko yeh sab nahin maloom. Me bad at maths.
Well 115,200 bps.
Why should night make a difference when each phone has an indiv data cable? Or does it have to do with the load on the reliance server?
Posted by: Pradeep Nov 1 2005, 03:05 PM
Something wrong with the configuration then. Ideally if you connect at 112.5 kbps, you should be able to download at max of 14kbps. I remember you were saying your download rate is 4 kbps. I guess you call those reliance guys and ask them give to give you a huge discount if they are unable to give what they claim. If you sit quiet they gonna make mince meat out of you.
Posted by: priya Nov 1 2005, 04:58 PM
No no I dl at 8 kbs Pradeep. 4 was the maximum I got on bsnl.
Ispar 14 to kabhi nahin mila. Maximum is always 9.
But they do not claim that na. They tell U that 115 is just a figure and U will not always get that speed. Cunning creatures. But altogether their service is far better than bsnl. Wahan to even if Ur phone conks no one gives a damn.

Posted by: priya Feb 8 2006, 05:41 PM
Why U wanna know that? How it helps?
Posted by: shivani Feb 8 2006, 05:46 PM
For some bizzare reason, I am not able to connect to the server on default port.
And when I try to connect using the IP address,I am able to connect.
Did not read to find more on why I am facing this problem. (sloth!)
One issue could be the port number. Maybe it is disabled on my computer.
But how and why should that make a difference!! It's the same server.
Sigh!
PS: I know next Q is going to be about port numbers.. read here

Posted by: unni Feb 8 2006, 08:46 PM
I guess HF Radio accesses Comcast's server, and not the server on which HF resides. So, for the radio, the same url would be applicable, I suppose.

Devje bhai I think there is no radio chat room here. You have to post here the timings you are playing.

Rjs online is the name of the thread. I have seen some of our friends posting here and then using the shoutbox to chat.
What calendar are you talking about?

4.0.1 The DJ/RJ should be an active member of HF.
4.0.2 The DJ/RJ Name should be the full HF Login Name.
4.0.3 The DJ/RJ must be available in the HF Radio chat room.
4.0.4 The DJ/RJ should check the HF Radio Calendar and make sure that timeslot is unreserved.
4.0.5 The DJ/RJ should post his/her wish to DJ in the topic, Calling The DJ prior to streaming.
4.0.6 Scheduled programs should be marked in the Radio calendar a minimum of 7 days in advance, so that the time slots are booked efficiently. The said information should be notified in a PM to the admins while being marked on the calendar.
4.0.7 An RJ/DJ should not send mass messages to members about the schedule, unless the member has wished to request such notifications.
4.0.8 To use the Radio to relay or DJ a programme, the members should contact the admin for the password. If an id that has not registered with the admin with the request for the password is found djing they will be denied access to the radio. Members who already possess the password should not distribute or share the passwords amongst other members.

I also want a password to become rj/dj.
(I tried PM to cyborg ji but it did not work).
Does anybody know of a way to become RJ/DJ using another player than winamp.
vlc is able to play radio played by others but how does one send sound as dj using it or any other software?
I am especially interested since winamp is not available for Linux which I use most of the time. (so a FOSS player would be nice to know of).
Thanks in advance to those who can give suitable suggestions.
Regards
Hildebrand

[/list] Feel free to raise any questions you may have.
