I'll always be an active participant on any Shamshad thread!

I haven't heard the duet you refer to (I suppose you'll be uploading it).

I heard (for the 100th time!) Shamshad's comedy solo in Bazaar (1949) - Pee Aaye Aa Ke Chal Bhi Diye. Look at the range of pitches she uses for this one song from conversational to mimicry to exclamatory. Because of the strength of her voice, the mike was kept at a safe distance from her! biggrin.gif

GM Durrani also sang this song as a solo and another Punjabi - the great Shyam Sunder - composed all the tunes for this superhit film....can upload if any member requires...

Kind Regards
Faraaj

Nice to see your response Faraaj.
I shall upload that song if you require it.

I don't have the G.M. Durrani version of the song. Do please upload it.
I shall upload the duet soon. I am waiting for response for her pre-47 songs. Hence, haven't gone ahead for the future years.

The duet can wait till you start the future years thread - which is a good idea and something that interests me. The GM Durrani version of Pee Aaye Aa Ke Chal from Bazaar (1949) is attached in mp3/192 kbps....source HF....he's a good singer, but Shamshad was great - the most underrated singer of that era....

Enjoy!

Kind Regards
Faraaj

Thanks Faraaj for the G.M. Durrani version.
Do you have the geetkosh or a book on shamshad?
If yes, it would be nice if you could list out pre-47 songs which we can then request specifically.
Other members with it also please respond.
I don't have the book otherwise would have done the needful myself.

Heard her song from Bahaar(1951)
Kusoor Aapka Huzoor Aapka Naam Na Leejiye Mera Ya Mere Baap Ka.
She's sung it well!

I listened to the famous Bachpan ke din bhula na dena . marvellous and evergreen ever refreshing number ............

I listened to her song with Rafi from Afsana, Chaupati Pe Kal Jo Tujhse Aankh Matakka Ho Gaya Paani puri bhool gaya main hakka bakka ho gaya. A nice fun song. Both seem to have enjoyed singing it.

Heard her lovely duet with G.M. Durrani sahab from Deedar.

Here are its full lyrics:-

Today I heard her duet with Mukesh from Cheen Le Azaadi (1947) - Moti Chugne Gayi Re Hansi. She sang only a handful of good duets with Mukesh in the early years for films like Mela (48), Aag (48), Anokhi Ada (48), Shabnam (49) and Sunehre Din (49), but, next to nothing in the fifties.

Rafi was frequently paired with Shamshad. I think Shamshad and Mukesh, with their beautiful voices and nasal twang made a good duet pairing. Wonder why they didn't sing more duets together.

Faraaj
Answer to the reduced songs in fifties is simple. Shamshad ji wasn't singing for the "camps" in which Mukesh was singing.

Heard her song from Chandni Raat, Chhaya Meri Umeed Ki Duniya mein Andhera ab yeh kisse maloom hai kab hoga savera (Do Din Ki Khushi).
Nice soulful song with some what subdued vocals like the song demanded.

Jawani Na Aati Na Dil Hum Lagaate in Veena 1948.

Shamshad Begum got some lovely songs from Anil Biswas sahab in this movie.

Listened to her parody of Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya from Raton Ka Raja 1970 sung with Mahendra Kapoor. Was amused to find the three letter word beginning with S as part of the lyrics. Surprised to see that. I dont think anyone else could have carried it off than Shamshad ji. tongue1.gif
